It's amazing there are so many MBs models to choose from, but none appeal to me... Except a 1969 SL 280.

My shortlist was originally down to 5 series, A6, E class or XC60. Went into local Mercedes dealer 2 or 3 times in the run up to deciding and never once got so much as a hello from a single member of staff.
Didn't exactly shore up the Merc cause. In contrast, BMW dealership was scarily slick and professional. Audi and Volvo both friendly and helpful.

I'd agree with the BMW appraisal: far too slick for my liking! Actually I found the X3 felt 'cramped'. & I've never been fond of BMW seats. Lovely engine though....
We liked the Mazda CX-5, and had the salesman not come back out of his managers office and decided he *couldn't* do the deal he had just agreed with us (popped a grand back on!), I might well have been driving one......nice engine, always liked Mazda.....but when you stepped in the XC, it was a class above. Clearly a few quid above to, to be fair - the Mazda is good for the price point....although still no DAB radio, tsk tsk.... Still, less than a week to go....cleaning products are all stacking up nicely in the garage waiting to be applied.....must sort out the insurance today! (yes, the 7-day driveaway insurance Volvo offer will not cover business use!)

After doing many months or research I had the usual suspects on the list to lease (BMW 3, A4, C class and a V60) but the personal lease prices went ridiculous...........The XC60 wasn't on the list to start with but the wife found lease deals and they were excellent value so we gave it a go............. visited the Volvo dealership and tested a V60 and an XC60 and loved them both but the kids liked the higher ride and space in the XC and my youngest loved the "magic" boot, so the XC 60 was chosen and it ticked pretty much all of the boxes and I'd read all about the new engines. Didn't even go to test the others at all.... loved the test drive and spec for the XC60 and also the sales guy at the dealer was great. As they say people buy from people more often than. Everytime we see an XC60 the girls shout out (they shout out for any Volvo now, even the trucks). On our recent holiday we visited Amsterdam (as a family ;-)) and I even found an XC60 in the same colour as our ordered one and marched the kids and wife over for a look........... I think the wife is counting down the days until the car arrives and hoping it will all calm down...... something tells me that's when it will just start :-) |

I may be the only one on the forum who has really gone out on a limb here.... Rich Java.
Before the test drive I had Black Sapphire or Caspian Blue in mind. After the test drive we looked at the colours on display in the showroom and my youngest pointed at the polestar blue... :-), which was never an option. However my wife and I were immediately draw to the Rich Java and the salesman said that everybody in the dealership thought it looked amazing on the car. They had sold one recently and thought it looked fantastic out in the sun...............many may say that he is bound to say that. I recently seen a post by Arianne (I think) with a picture of the R-Design in Red and it looks awesome. |

I test drove one, it was very nice and I could have had one quite easily and would happily recommend them. The inside was not as classy as the Volvo but then there is a significant price difference and that has to show somewhere. In terms of pricing, I am paying less for my XC60 on a 3 yr lease than I would have done for a CX-5 on the same terms. Crazy but that is leasing for you. Only downside is the higher BIK but then the extra luxury has to have a price to pay somewhere.
