"Engine service required" and error code P250A

Hi,

The message appears "Engine service required" and I've recently read the error codes. There is one error P250A. The P250A code is for the Engine Oil Level Sensor Circuit.

How can I check this sensor before replacement? I heard that it can be problem with oil quality. Is that true?

Car: VOLVO XC90 D5 2007.

Just had something similar on my 2007 Exec - turned out the indy had missed the sticker under the bonnet that changes the maximum fill level on the dipstick to roughly 75% of the old maximum (was part of a software update). Hence post-service... engine system service required and mild panic until the local Volvo main dealer fixed it... for the princely sum of £72! (read the code, drain some oil, put a bit more in)

As for the oil quality - the sensor is able to monitor oil quality and there is a output pin for the quality signal however Volvo does not use this

The error message disappeared after oil change, clean the connector (just for a case) and reset error codes. The previous oil level was about 2 'x's from above maximum, now the oil level is almost the same. So its wasn't problem with oil level.

Once again I have the same error message. After 2 weeks the message again appears. Tested using OBD (error P250A) I checked the oil level and its filled in full. Should I change the sensor or remove some oil from the engine???

Removing some oil costs nothing, so doing that first has to be worth trying don't you think?
