Just a post script to this.
Ok now have the car back.. Engine replaced, rebuilt turbo (London turbos) and 5 X replaced injectors. In replacing engine, new mounts, gaskets cam belt, core plug crank seals plus the rest I am just pleased that a local Volvo indie was prepared to pick up the pieces. Remember my 2003. I will not detail cost but the moral of this story is, if you are unable to do your own maintenance, to make sure you are confident in your garage. There are a lot out there who are completely incompetent. So, when you find a competent local indie, treasure them. Many thanks to those who offered advice earlier in this thread. John l |

I take it that everything is fine with the replacement engine John and that overall the car is now as it should be?

Thanks for asking.
All seems to be fine, but back to garage today as there is a rattle at tick over behind dash. Only happened after 10min drive and was stuck in traffic. It sounds like the aluminium heat shield in the area of turbo is rattling at tick over. It stops when driving. Engine certainly seems tighter and very responsive. My other real concern is that it now has a problem with steering angle sensor being biased too much to one side. I have Vida, will read codes, and need to investigate but will speak to garage about this as threads do state that this could be a necessary adjustment if surgery has been made round steering components. And it certainly had that! Btw I am taking action with the first garage, and they are talking to me. Hopefully I get the money I paid them back. My old engine currently lays in the corner of the garage and as the first garage is just around the corner, they can easily view this screw up. Thanks again John l Last edited by john langrick; Nov 6th, 2019 at 07:57. |
