See post #5

It's also unclear if it's front and back or just front

If it was just front discs and pads and they were genuine Volvo, the parts come to around £450.00 retail

I replaced my pads and discs with ATE parts from autodoc shortly after I bought it. I had to replace one of the rear calipers as the rubber boot had split and my local independent Volvo specialist would not refurbish it.
I used standard ATE docs and their ceramic pads as they make much less of a mess on the wheels as they wear.

Thanks, yes it's a bit unclear. The first post mentions front axle and 'brakes and pads' which I assumed would be discs and pads as a mis-match in that area often seems to be the culprit if noise or vibration is the issue.
The reference to calipers sparked my interest as my independent Volvo chappie mention £600 per caliper (+pads +labour) for genuine Volvo parts when our V70 rear calipers were sticking recently. I opted for refurbed ones.

Volvo explicitly suggest not to use aftermarket parts but on the other hand they sold me one like that. I would expect it will come in the check up and I would have this in hand to take decision.

I thought that going through Volvo Selekt means you avoid cases exactly from that kind
Otherwise in what they are different from any High street car reseller like Car Giant?

About the price this was the quote I got from my garage for replacing pads and callipers to new genuine parts. If you can share what will be a reasonable price it will be amazing
A few questions if I may....

1) Have you gone anywhere else for a second check and a second opinion?

2) Have you continued to use the car since the fault was first recognised 10 weeks ago?

3) Was the local garage a Volvo specialist?

4) Where is Stock? (Google maps doesn't know about it.)

Hello Volvo Community,

I’m a newcomer here and have found this forum to be an invaluable resource. I’m reaching out for the first time with a question about an issue I’ve encountered with my Volvo XC90.

In September 2022, I purchased a second-hand Volvo XC90 from a Volvo Selekt site. After nine months of use, I began to notice a strange noise originating from the front axle. A local garage confirmed that the noise was due to non-genuine brakes and pads on the front axle, although they assured me there were no safety issues.

I’m trying to understand my rights in this situation. I assumed that when purchasing a Volvo car from a Volvo branch, all parts would be genuine, especially given their extensive check-ups. Had I known the car had non-genuine brakes, I would have reconsidered my purchase. I feel this detail was not disclosed to me and could have significantly influenced my decision.

Additional Information:

1. The issue was identified during a service at another Volvo garage. They immediately attributed the noise to the non-genuine parts and estimated a cost of £1500 plus labor to replace them with genuine parts.
2. I lodged a complaint with Volvo customer support. After a 10-week wait, they responded that the issue was not with Volvo, but with the garage that sold me the car.
3. The garage that sold me the car responded officially, stating that my complaint was not valid. They claimed that they had checked the car and were not obligated to inform me about the non-genuine parts, as long as they met safety criteria.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this situation.
Has anyone else experienced something similar or have any advice to offer?

Thank you in advance for your help.
you Assumed,
you didnt ask,
you didnt check you Assumed - onus is now Firmly on you,

its not reasonable to expect any car sales method/manner/seller/dealer to take off working items just to replace them with "genuine" items

unreasonable expectation there Muchly so,
and you didnt ask either,, its ALL on you and YOUR unreasonable expectations

Correct, and no manufacturer does it, so I'm not sure which make or model you would have bought instead, if you'd realised before buying ?

It's a bit like buying a Selekt Volvo with new budget tyres on it. Just because it had Michelins on when new, it might have something legal but cheaper on after the first or second owner ?

I would try another Volvo dealer as mentioned above and have a friendly chat with them to see a) what their price is and b) if you can have a discount on the parts.

I could hazard a guess.
I know a few people who have no technical knowledge when it comes to vehicles, and no desire to learn. A car is a tool, and the maintenance of it something they prefer to leave to the professionals. With that in mind they willingly pay a little over the odds for a manufacturer-approves used car in the hope that it will be squeaky clean in wind and limb. I'm NOT saying that the OP falls into this category of owner, but I know one or two who pay up, expect the best, and are disappointed. I hope he can get things resolved to his satisfaction.

What a nasty comment. A new person on this and some of the replies wow! This is making my point over and over. Nasty arrogant rude discrimination behaviour once again. Why can’t you just be friendly and leave the attitude alone. He wants friendly advice. XC90 on the approved used program? Not one person said oh nice car mate… Few posts down someone even picks on people who use cars as a tool and have no mechanical knowledge!!! You mean most of the UK!!!! NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO GET THEIR HANDS DIRTY WITH A BLOODY CAR.

Guess you mean me then.
My point is exactly that; not everyone wants to get their hands dirty with DIY maintenance. It's not a criticism, it's a fact of life. Some owners hope to circumvent car problems by purchasing from the 'Volvo Select' range (insert manufacturer of your choice), but even paying a premium price doesn't guarantee that the vehicle lives up to expectations in every way. I'd be just as disappointed as the OP, though I think that in this particular instance no dealer is likely to do what the OP hoped for.
No criticism of the OP was intended. Rather, as I said later in my reply, I hope that he can get the issue resolved satisfactorily.
