differences between 1999 estate and 2000 saloon?
Hi there,
Following a recent writeoff of my 2000 s40 2.0T I have found a 1999 s40 estate which requires a new engine. Perfect! I thought, however I've been told that the 2000 (facelift) is different to the 1999 non-facelift and it could be that the engine from the 2000 wouldn't fit.. is this so? Also, would the interiors be interchangable? Especially as the 1999 is an estate, would the rear bench fit? Hope anyone can help! Much appreciated. Jason |

had a bit of a look around, and one of the 1.8 engines is listed with same number (GDi one AFAIK) but all other engines are different (as to mountings/sensors/Ecu etc I don't know), and rear back of seat isn't interchangeable (not sure about seat base, but possibly not)
Unless you know someone who's done it, but otherwise is it that difficult to source correct engine from Salvo Etc, and sell you old engine and rest of car |

Thanks for your reply.
I had a feeling the rear wouldn't fit - that's a bummer. Did any of the 1999 estates come in black leather? If so I'll have to have a look around. About the engine, are you then saying that it's only an easy swap if the engine is the same 2.0T or 1.8? I was under the impression all s40's would interchange parts with each other without a problem? I guess not. Well, if I can't fit the engine, then I'll have to get one from the scrappy. Thanks very much! |

Ok, I've found a 2.0i from a '97 estate - it looks fairly similar to my current one, except my current has a low pressure turbo.
I've got a mechanic doing the swap, so he'll take a look between my engine and the engine still in the blown volvo I've bought. However the more I know the faster this will get done. My engine (3rd pic from left) Ebay 2.0i For some reason I can't find a 1999 s40 estate to link? Only V40 But I'm sure you guys know what it is, I'm just not sure what engine was in it, that's what the mech was finding out. I can't see why mine wouldn't fit though, as it's the same model. |

Why on earth did they call the estate a V40? It looks the same as the S40!
It looks like the Engines will swap (touch wood) as it's a 1.8! so that's the next project to be undertaken the last weekend of the month. Are you sure the interiors won't swap? They look very similar, even the fittings around the rear! |

Its just the way volvo name their cars nowadays
S = saloon V - versatile (estate) C = Coupe XC = cross country some share the same platform like - 96-04 S and V 40 04-on C30, S40 and V50 |
