Default Fuel display and dash lights problem

Hi,

I just got my V40 back from the garage (new mot etc.. haven't driven it before today!)

There are a few problems..
The RANGE lamp is flashing continuously, I put 13litres of fuel in (from 0), and the fuel electronic display is still showing the lowest bar. Is there something wrong with a fuel level sensor?!

There are two other lamps on the dash..

1) Ser-vice
2) A car with an X going through it.

I think the second is the immobiliser?

What is going wrong with the car, could anyone help me?
I would appreciate any help that can be given.. I don't want to be driving it if it won't show how much fuel is in there, although the MPG function is working fine..

Thanks,
Jason

EDIT: V40, 1997.
Also, the rear driver side door won't unlock with the rest of them, the lock pin moves a bit, but not all the way...

The same happened to me, but only when outside temperature was below -10 °C. I guess I had to remove door panel and grease things up.

SERVICE light is just a reminder to plan next service visit. It does not affect on the reliability or anything else. At least it shouldn't.

Immobilizer light can also go on if battery inside the key is weak. This goes for '00 - '04 models, but I don't know for '97 models if they got battery inside keys al all.

My 97 v40 is a bit flakey on the fuel level sensor, ive recently taken the pump and sensor out, cleaned it up and refitted it. Unsure as to whether it is any better or not as i havent driven it since.

Orange range flashing means next to zero fuel, try putting half a tank in and see what happens.

For the serivce light, try this:

Hold in the trip meter reset button
Then turn ign to position two (all lights on)
Then as soon as the service light starts to flash turn off the ign and then release the trip meter button.
Turn on ign and start engine and the service reset light is reset!

Thankyou for the replies!
I've got the door sort-of opening, but it still sticks, I think I'll have to get the panel off and lube everything up..

I will try the service reset method, and see if that (hopefully!) works.

And, I'm taking the car to be checked (with the system fault check device) to see what the issue is with the immobiliser. It's not a battery thing, I've replaced them with new just to be sure

Thanks again.

What is the trip meter reset button?
I tried this holding in the reset button next to the knob that you can turn to see range, average mpg, engine temp etc.. but it didn't work.

That's the info center button you were pressing.

It's the trip meter button, or odometer button, in the instrument panel you need to press and hold whilst turning the ignition to position II. As Scoobysn7x says, hold it until it flashes and then release. Should go out next time you start the engine.

For pre-1999 models the service reminder has to be reset using a special gadget (or a stealer)
