Yes- I've noted Skandix postage has shot up. I don't know it it's "normal" or Brexit related but has put me off ordering now from them.

No rush on it anyway, but no way in hell am I paying £60 postage.

In their list of postages, UK is now the highest. Probably them chancing their arm.

I've emailed one of the Volvo dealers/traders who sell stuff on ebay for a price etc as I've bought service items from them before and they've been good.

The switch is part of the latch. I didn't take the latch out and was lucky that the penetrating fluid did the job with the whole thing in situ but I suppose that if you remove the latch/switch, it may be possible to identify the switch and find an identical one on ebay etc. I'm sure that the component supplier who supplied the latch/switch merely bought in a suitable switch that was available on the market.

As some cars fall outside the 10 year support period for spares following the car going out of production, this approach to make-do and mend is going to become more and more prevalent. Since using the jumper allows the car to be used without any problem apart from a loss of security for under bonnet items, There is plenty of time available to strip out the latch, remove the switch from it, put back the latch and start the search for a suitable switch.

Just had the siren replaced by local garage and then got the bonnet open indicator on the dash and random alarms. Paperclip fix worked for me. Thanks.

In the meanwhile I put in the paperclip jumper workaround to stop the warnings and then wasn't very worried about how long it took for the garage to come back to me with any findings on the switch. I noticed that the car has also started to erratically display a "Alarm Servicing Required" warning. So after a couple of weeks I removed the jumper and reconnected the switch into circuit and when I closed the bonnet the bonnet open warning went away! WD40 Silicone has obviously very slowly found its way into the switch and freed it. However the alarm servicing warning still appears from time to time. The alarm on the other hand works as it should, as far as I can tell. I'm embarassed to tell the garage that I'd prefer to leave things alone for the time being and I'd like to use my VIDA/DiCE to investigate the alarm warning but I have yet to find the time to scramble my brains installing the software on my laptop. It has driven me mad and will probably continue to do so!
try joining the vida dice user group there are plenty folk on there who can help you install vida .. there are so many variables it only takes one missed part and vida will not work .or try following the instructions on the you tube vids.

I had this issue recently too. I bought a new latch mechanism with three wire switch for about £70 off an eBay seller. Plug and play once you get the whole bumper off which isn't too hard. Here is a link to my previous posting.

That was over two years ago! I've had it up and running for nearly two years now.

Mine went today - plenty of WD Lubricant and a screw driver to lock and unlock lots and everything back to normal.

Big thanks to everyone.

Yes having the same message that appeared yesterday. Seems to be a common issue. Mines started after a boy was given the task of spraying the under body to protect against corrosion for the up and coming winter. Saw him do the boot hinges and the bonnet hinges.... Not sure why, but may be its just a coincidence. Have sprayed both from bonnet latches (capot! if in Quebec!) with WD-40 this afternoon. Hopefully, that resolves the issue of the warning light coming up. If not, I found the connecter and I'll disconnect and short it out and wrap in electrical tape. 'Problem' gone. Not going to be fleeced for $400 or so here for something so trivial.

Just to update, did the WD-40 skoosh, prodded the latches with a leatherman and hoped that would be enough. Took a short run to the supermarket this evening. On starting, no warning light and no red light when I started moving.

On getting home, satisifed the trick of WD-40 and prodding has done the trick! Hopefully that's the end of it.

Thanks to those who posted the work arounds. 😁👍
