Default Rattling noise just before 3000rpm

2004 d5

My cars had a rattling noise coming from front of the car just before 3000rpm for a while. If you take your foot off the accelerator the noise goes when you press pedal again it comes back the noise goes after you change until just before 3k rpm in next gear it’s most noticeable at motorway speeds because you sit in 5th. Can’t be sure but I think the noise had gotten worse over time.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Check that the output flange from the transfer box is not rubbing on the steering rack heat shield which can happen if the engine mounts are worn.

Cheers just had all engine mounts done so don’t think it’s that. Should have mention it to garage then but just wanted car back ASAP at the time.
