Default V70 DIM replacement

I know this is an old thread but I am wonderig if any one would know what are the chances of sucess to replace my DIM with an used one. I am planing to buy a used on on ebay. I read several things about some people say i can replace with similar one , other that has to be identical and other say that there is no chance and only my original DIM will be accepted by my cars computer. Also read a lot of cases where mileage does not reflect real car mileage or that some functions woudl not work properlly. Any tips or advice regarding this , I know I can I alwasy try to send to old one for repair but alsa saw cases where this does not resolve or just is a temp fix and given the prices that i can find used ones which seems to be working perfecly I fell more inclined to try replacement of the entire unit. What are chances of sucess ? S80 Dim looks identical to V70 wondering if these woudl be compatible? Sorry title says V70 but as this is also related potential compatibilities or not between 2 models S80 /v70 I tought it could be relavant in both ways and to this post.

thanks but I was more intrested to find out about DIM compatibility what types would be suitable to my car as an exact match regarding all numbers and car year is almost impossible to find.
For instance if a DIM from a manual gearbox car will fit a an automatic car or if a diesel DIM will fit an gasoline car
