Nope.

Having recently replaced my P2 T5 estate I spent loads of time I'm various different marques looking for a suitable family wagon.

Fell in love with a BMW335d Xdrive, as a driver, but miles too small for a family in my opinion. So not liking BMW 5 series, I plumped for an Audi A6 - again A4 felt a bit cramped in the back. Went BiTDI. Brutal. With plenty of room for rear passengers, dog's, paraphernalia etc...

Found that modern estates with their sweeping rear ends are an awful lot smaller than they seem - especially compared to the big old boxy Swede! Although would agree the V70 was short of legroom - off set by an epic boot!

So does the 6 speed auto make it a GT ? (never heard of a V70R GT before)

When did they change from 5 to 6 speed on the R ?

Looks a lovely car too.

Hey John they normally refer to them as VR GTs or VR M66s, short for V70R Geartronic or Manual. And changed to a 6 speed in the last 2 years of production 06-07 bar the obvious extra gear it also isn't torque limited in first and second unlike the 04-05s.

Great looking car and yes, I'd agree that the rear passenger space isn't great... I bought the Maxi Cosi Family fix base and a Cabriofix seat, Mother care fitted it to her Mk5 Astra and all was well. Went off, ordered and fitted isofix points to my V70R, fitted the seat and then discovered it's smaller than the Astra and thus the passenger seat is now somewhere between the glovebox and the headlights... not impossible, it's in safely and the wife can get in the front but certainly not as much space as you'd assume. The Astra has since been replaced by an 07 V50 and it roomier than the two. But, I digress...

Turbo Dave your right we even tried the front seat which had plenty of room however the seat belt is just too short I couldn't believe it. Needless to say I wasn't finding it funny anymore while the better half was smugly gazing over at me struggling in the "brick" whilst she had no problem in the shoebox that is a citroen c1
