Anti skid service required
Oh dear.............. first my wife's S40 a few years ago, and now my V50!
Usual exchange of calls/e-mails between Volvo and it has resulted in their refusal to do more than offer 50% contribution to the replacement of the Brake Module. (leaving a bill of £408 to me!) Personally I'm not happy with that and told them so. Volvo say it is due to lack of 'Brand Loyalty' (despite my wife and I owning 6 Volvo's in the past!) This decision is actually based on the fact that following the end of warranty period, I now have them serviced an alternative garage at one third the price. The other factor they cite is the 'amount of use I have had out of the car' prior to the fault being identified. Personally that a bit of a get-out as it could fail at any time - just luck really! I have refused to pay, and now Volvo tell me it is dangerous to drive the car as the brakes may fail. My thoughts are: This is clearly a 'known' problem (28400 hits on Google) If this does render the car 'dangerous' to use, surely it should be subject of a recall? I am now in communication with VOSA to see what can be done as Volvo are refusing to budge on the 50%. Watch this space. Not a happy bunny!!! |

Had my 'Anti-Skid Service Required' message last year and Volvo UK paid 100% of mine. Mine is a 2006 (2007 model) V50 2.0D Sport with (currently) 46,000m and never serviced at a main dealer except for the first service!
I think I just made it in the 100% 5 year rule as after that it dropped to 50% contribution and then drops again to 25%. I was told there is/was a problem with certain chassis numbers made in a certain year but from what I read on here that's quite a lot of cars affected so maybe a recall would be a good idea. Good luck with VOSA, let us know what they say. Last edited by Lee '71; Jun 12th, 2012 at 23:02. |

Same for me volvo only willing to pay 50%, so tempted to go back in and threaten to tell customers of issues with these. |

ABS module
I must have been 'lucky' ?? mine was three months out of warranty and they fixed 'free' but I did have to pay them £115 (inspection) for them to confirm it was the ABS pump (which I had already had checked by an independant) :-(
and teh independant guy had tried THREE times to clear code so we knew it was 'serious' |
