Default 'Battery/power saving mode' message

Haven't found this one in the car literature:

Was sitting in the car with ignition on, and the radio while setting up Traffic on the Garmin Volvo sat nav built in unit. After a few minutes an advisory came up on the dash that read something like entering battery saving mode. At the same time the high performance sound system screen read' switching off in 2 minutes

Useful I guess. Now someone can tell me that this is in the handbook and I need new glasses

Cheers

It means that the battery "level" is getting low. The older the battery, the quicker it comes. Mine does it after about 20 mins.

Basically means your battery will soon be due...

As daim says it's the cars way of ensuring it has enough power left in the battery to start the engine and making sure that the battery doesn't run flat. My Volvo battery got worse and worse as the years went by and was replaced this year with a much higher capacity Yuasa battery. Not so bad now.

If you're sitting in the car just listening to the radio etc. Make sure you switch off the air conditioning system as that fairly saps power.

Post Thanks...

Mine has not done it since, but I was listening to the radio with the key in the off position to minimise drain but when the message came up (after about an hour I realised that I had the lights on in the park position so all the side lights had been on as well... ooops..

Hopefully it will now be ok, car was 5 years old last month & on original battery....
