Default When you know its time to sell your volvo?

Hi all,

Nore of a lurker on here if im honest.

I have a C30 1.6D SE on an 07 plate. It was new to me but not new. Just under 3yr old when it bought it, and it came used approved with a years warranty.

I appreciate cars do not last forever, things wear out, just wondering when folk think its gets excessive.

Repair list so far

EGR (warranty) 2010
Boot seal (warranty) 2010
Offside front bearing march 2012
Drivers front bearing sept 2012
Brake control Module (50:50 with volvo) 2012
DPF failure, - rightly or wrongly had it removed. dec 2012
This week, alternator fail. feb 2013

I'm on 83000 miles, i keep it up to date with servicing, oil changes etc. I was hoping to get another couple of years out it. I'm worried about turbos going, fuel pumps etc. Timing belt is not due till 140K, but i likely won't wait that long.

So would you keep it??

Well, if you go by that, then I should have sold my car a long time ago, as it had loads of (non Ford relating) faults.

But since the last 4 years it has been as good as it should have been new.

There are certain parts, which will fail rather quickly, and are known to do so, such as the altenator. Around about 75-80k miles (120-130k km) on 1.6d/2.0d models is quite normal. Though not a delightful thing. Other things happen of course too... But in the end, every car has its faults and will require some work sometime in it's life.

See it this way: when all is sorted, it will be quite for a while. A friend (or better former friend... Users... Hate them) has loads of issues with his 2007 C30 T5. Here a fault, there a fault, and again a new fault. I don't think he has had that thing in perfect condition for at least 3 years... And then he keeps complaing about how bad Volvos are. But he isn't selling. Not because he likes the car, but because he is simply stupid and would have nothing to talk about when it comes to normal every day life...

Until they really start falling apart, fortunately none of my 98 S70 or 08 XC90 seems to do so. Just regular service !!!
It is definitley more economical to maintain the old than investing in a new, especially when it is a Volvo with an average life span of 18 years.

ha, just found this post of mine from yonks ago.

Well, my wee C30 lasted a bit longer, got to 149,980 miles before I got rid. Would have driven the last 20 just to get a nice round number, but didn't want to give the dealer any diesel.

so 11years old, blowing blue smoke on occasion and still on a lot of oem kit, exhaust, turbo.

Off to auction it went Oct 2017.

i bought a 2007 98k miles t5 c30 last year for very little money, after spending 3 months working on it its safe to say its pretty much like triggers broom and i hope it to last me at least 5 years now I cannot see myself ever wanting to sell it after all the work ive put into it though. In reality I dont think i should have spent as much money on it as i did (£5kish) and £3000 to buy the car. the questions i ask myself all the time is: was it worth it? and will it last? only time will tell

Seems to me the present day volvos whilst good cars have lost that hewn from swedish granite quality that the cars of thirty years ago had in spades

I really don’t think a present day volvo is any different in quality than many of its rivals , I drove a D2 recently and it felt no different to my wife’s kia if i’m honest
