Default Physical size of a T4 engine.

A few years back I had a lovely V40 T4, which I parked in the back of a BMW... Cracking engine, I miss that car.

Now I may be in a position to transplant the engine from a T4 into a Tiger kit car, but will it fit?

Could some kind person take a couple of measurements for me?
I need to know the length of the engine, so the distance from the gearbox joint to the outside of the timing belt cover.
Also the height, from the bottom of the sump to the top of the cam cover.

A couple of days of googling have been fruitless, please help! :-)
If a kind owner is somewhere close to Rainham in Kent and doesn't mind a quick chat, I could bring a tape measure... ;-)

Hi Alex, hope you are well?

Can`t give you the measurements but i would think the distance between the headlamps of a Phase 1 would give you an approx. size.

However here is a pic. of a mini with a T4 engine installed ...very handy to get at the turbo, if it was installed...lol

Hi Keith, doing good. I find myself in a V50 2l diesel, not a bad place to be even if it is a focus in a frock! :-)

If I remember right from my Phase 2 T4, the cam belt cover is quite near the inner wing on the left and a fair way into the bay on the right. Chunky gearbox, air cleaner and battery between the head and the right side of the bay.
I'd like semi accurate figures, even if it is just to show it won't fit.
On the other hand if the it is rather small, I may start looking at a T5...

I've just measured my 2 lt, same block as a T4.

From cambelt cover to gearbox joint 700mm. From bottom of sump to top of cambelt cover or top of oil filler cap - both about the same height - 650mm.

Hope this helps.

Nuts! The pinto that is currently in there is only 600mm. That is a lot of space to find... :-(

Thanks for measuring.

While you are absolutely correct, money.

A T4 can be picked up for 500 quid and have all of the kit needed to run, other than an exhaust. The bike engine option would be more than that just for the engine, then there is everything else including a reverse gear!

Being pragmatic, I'll be fixing the pinto. BUT I will be looking closely at the engine bay and evaluating options when I get the car in my garage.

That's one of the options when I get the car in my garage. If it's not a Volvo then the emotional attachment is not there...
