Thanks Oak.

I tried ReveiveCarAudio, they said they wouldn't be able diagnose the Amp either.

I'm going to try these guys https://www.cartronics.co.uk/volvo

There's a parallel thread on repairing amps, https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=274190 The guy there had his amp repaired. You could ask him.

Hi Tatsfield,

Yes, I saw that thread and I did reach out but no reply. I don't think he has been on the forum for some time.

My car is at the local Volvo dealer to get the windscreen re-bonded today. I'll ask what they would charge to replace or fix. I bet it will be a lot if they can do it at all.

Hi sorry I don`t get on here much now.
Any electronics engineer should be able to test the internals of the amp. I have a friend that did mine.

Hi All,

All Fixed!

So after the Volvo Dealer said the Premium Amp had failed and Volvo specialist I use, also said it is most likely the amp but didn't run any diagnostics, I searched high and low for a replacement. Couldn't find one. I searched high and low for a company that could test and fix it. Again, I couldn't find one.

My father in-law was an electrical engineer but has long since retired. He took the Amp apart and got his many wonderful equipment out and started testing each individual circuit on the circuit boards (There are two of them in the premium amp). After spending many hours over a few days he said he could find anything wrong. Although he did admit that he is limited by the lack of knowledge in the construction and design.

I thought back to what Oak said about the blown speakers. I got an old second hand speaker for £9 of ebay, took of a rear door card and plugged it in.

Boom! I had sound! .... And I can hear my rear parking sensors!

I quick search on ebay and I found a complete set of speakers from a Volvo V70 that had the High Performance sound (Blue Label). So they are slightly less quality.

When I received them, I tested them and got sound. I fitted them by drilling out the pot rivets to the old speakers and rivited the replacements in.

Job Done! I am happy.

'What are the chances of all speakers blowing at once' I thought. But then, as I bought this car second hand with the problem, I don't know if they did blow all at once. They could have gone individually over a period of time.

Long story short. If your premium sound has gone, listen to Oak and test the speakers first.

In Oak we trust. Thanks for your help.

This is great news - well done for persevering!

Honestly I went through this exact conversation with myself for weeks... One speaker blowing - yup I could appreciate that. Two unlikely....Three...nope! Four - not a chance in a million!

But yes - Lovely speakers but really do have a limited life span if driven hard. You'd have hoped it would be common knowledge but not yet - Volvo need to catch up!

So pleased you're now fixed and working again. I couldn't find any reasonably priced genuine replacements at the time. They do come up as you've found but I'm happy with my replacement units and like yourself was just grateful I had working parking sensors at the time.

Thanks for the thanks - happy to spread the solution that doesn't appear to be well enough known.

All the best and happy listening Floyd!
