I average around 50 mpg on a long run but 74mpg isn't achievable unless you walk! and yes if you can see the lines on the windscreen then you have the heated one...

I have my Ipod plugged in to the usb socket and it sounds great, yours should have a hard drive as well to copy cd's to etc.

Enjoy!
Is yours an auto? This one I'm looking at is manual so hopefully it's just me that's dim-witted !

Oh I'm no stranger to ambitious manufacturer MPG claims! I'd be happy with getting 55 on my commute to work though. Town driving I just forget about MPG when it comes to diesel. 95% of my driving is on A/B roads anyway.

I was hoping I could find out if it has the screen before I go visit it but I'm pretty sure it will have it with the winter pack but I will double check when I'm there with the car.

My plan with phone connectivity is to get a phone holder/dock and connect my phone via bluetooth. So far no one has mentioned if you can play music via bluetooth or if it's just for phone calls. (granted I've been meaning to look at the owners manual for this)

Manufacturers are not allowed to claim any fuel consumption figures .... the ones you see are figures obtained by the government in their computer simulation tests ... The main purpose of these is to COMPARE one car to another on exactly the same simulated route . Not to state what you are likely to get on your particular route or conditions ...

Thanks, I did find it in the manual just now so was fairly confident however spotify probably didn't exist in 2014 so I was just a tad sceptical about spotify itself working!

What's the deal with EGR/emissions issues etc? Is the D4 from 2014 subject to the issues I am seeing?

If it is the 4 cylinder D4 ( 2015 model year and later then yes but they would have been sorted out a while ago under volvos extended warranty on the cooler etc . Always make sure the car has the latest software .

Happy with those answers, will have a read of the manual.

Is the 4 cyl engine 'unreliable' or just not as reliable as the 5 cyl? I'm going to be saving £280 a month on car finance so I have no issues spending the money to ensure the car is well serviced and maintained in that sense.

Is the polestar optimising worth it? How much is that generally?
I've never personally owned a 4 cylinder Volvo but had 5 of the 5 cylinder engines (4 x diesel and 1 x T5 petrol). All so far have proved to be reliable but I do tend to notice more posts about the 4 cylinder ones.

The Polestar Optimisation made a huge difference on the current car, makes it a lot more responsive. Not sure I would be happy paying full price (circa £700) as the two I've bought were always when Volvo had an offer on. Think I paid about £500 for this one and I'm happy with it
