Oh No !!! .. Again ?
Sorry to hear that ... it's a problem that is very misleading ... you think it's cured and then after severe rain it happens again ...mine re-occurred some days after my last post on the forum ...
....went back to "my" windscreen fitters and they had to bite the bullet ..!! ... refit the whole rear windscreen !! .. it took about 1.5 hours to do and cost about £40.00 ... good price in view of being my 3rd trip there ... since then, no problems. This is not an an unusual or rare problem apparently ... my friend in Leicester had an identical car to mine, pull up next to his at a petrol station, with whole tailgate wrapped in cling film !! ... when asked, eyebrows were raised and comments of " just can't find the leak" resulted. If you can find a good reliable ( indy) windscreen fitter, get them to check, with someone in the load area, and a pressure hose on the tailgate, both before removing windscreen, and then after, to ensure seal is good..... best of luck... cost should be under £100 but ..... price it first also... probably best if you visit their premises rather than employing a mobile fitter. Leaking in on rear Volvo estates
This quite a common problem on the newer V70 Volvo estates, and possibly other models as well, the XC70 being one known one, the reason is that on the earlier V70 there was a sealing strip to run water away from the hinges, then Volvo in their wisdom decided to do away with this length of sealing strip that was fitted on the tailgate body opening just above the hinges, not on the tailgate itself, as for it's length it was roughly in line with the roof bars which took it well past both of the tailgate hinges, the water ingress then ran away past those hinges, around and down the sides of the tailgate to the outside.
It's an easy fix to do yourself, although the rubber strip Volvo part 9154842 can be quite expensive in some country's, you can find a much cheaper china L shaped version (5mtrs) so easily more than enough can be found on ebay for less than £10 and works just as well. Another place that can leak in quite badly staining the headlining and dropping onto the boot cover is from the roof aerial, the double sided sticky pad that holds it on perishes over time or poor fitting in the first place, the Volvo part no. is 31282106 also can be quite expensive, Tigerseal or some other good silicon sealant is just as good, once you have resealed and stuck it down put some masking tape or Gorilla tape over it to hold it down for a couple of days till the sealant sets, this is where my 2013 V70 was leaking in, now fixed, and I did the tailgate rubber strip afterwards just for good measure. |

Thanks for this solution, hopefully it resolves my issue as the current water feature on rainy days is not in my list of optional extras. @Peter86 Did you have any issues with the electric tailgate failing to close? It's obviously reading the new seal as interference and reopening each time. Possibly once the seal had been compressed by the tailgate for a while this issue will resolve itself as going to a smaller seal would seem to defeat the purpose. Craig |

There is a Volvo part but if you have a spare metre length of self adhesive window sealing strip, that will do the job for virtually nothing. See: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...9&d=1620472414 . Mine isn't exactly pretty but you can't see it when the tailgate is shut and I'd completely forgotten that I fixed it there!
