Cuts out
Hi all, I have had this car for 9 months now and it is great except every now and again especially after going very slow, stop, start in traffic, the engine cuts out and nothing I do will keep it ticking over.the only way is to start as if I have just got in, only now it has started to kangaroo as I try to keep it going by being very light on the pedal.I drove on a very busy dual carriage way on sunday when this happened and it took about half a mile before it picked up proper. There are no codes and no messages only press clutch pedal. Car is 2011 s60 t3 Stop/start.Any ideas please.

Not sure how many miles your car has done, or the service history. If you have no evidence that is was changed recently then the first and simplest thing to check is the fuel filter? Very cheap to fit a new one.

Been to have filter changed only to be told that they are a lifetime filter incorporated into the fuel pump.Going to try running it without the stop/start turned on.

Firstly, I have no experience of your particular engine.
But in any car with the symptoms you describe I would be looking at the throttle body first. Ensure it is clean and moving freely. Throttle bodies tend to be designed with a small gap on the throttle when fully closed. This allows some air through to enable idle. The throttle butterfly can get gummed up over time and reduce/eliminate the designed gap. I would assume you have an electronic throttle. There should be a test process for this in Vida (I've used it on older throttles). Don't know if that would be available in you BSR thing? Also, if you can, try and observe some live data when the car is having the problem and when not and see if you can spot some values that are different in the two situations. I'd suggest things like Throttle position, MAF reading, Manifold pressure etc. This may help narrow down the issue.

Based on something similar that happened to my XC70 I suggest test the fuel pump relay.
Easiest is to get a donor vehicle, swap the fuel pump relay to your car and take it for a drive. If the problem has disappeared you know what spare part to buy. If not - your search continues but you have eliminated one possibility.

on this engine im sure fuel pump is on the engine
im sure there is small alloy casing attatched to your fuel pump you can remove cover and have a look take some pics and put them on here in this casing there is a plunger and a spring the spring in question can stick reducing fuel pressure first thing upload pics of pump and surrounding area and we can go from there regards |
