Lightbulb Recommendation: Replace your old Xenons!

Had one of my Xenons (H3S) go after 222k/11 years over Christmas on my V60.

New Osram Nightbreakers and the difference between a new side and and old side was night and day.

I can actually see much further now on the dark country roads, surprising improvement!

Thus I really recommend anyone with Xenons that have done more than about 150k/8 years to replace them.

I wish I had done them sooner!!

Yep that…..

Xenon bulbs deteriorate from day 1 and can drop to as low as 20% light output before they fail, so if you have dim headlights likely you need new lamps.

Funny that you post this. I was thinking today that my xenon’s didn’t seem as bright as I remembered them to be, and was wondering the life span given halogen tend to fail a lot sooner.

Any recommended supplier for discounts on what are very expensive items (and where iirc there are fakes around, too)

Mine were sold by Amazon (not a third party). Serial Numbers etc and the security/genuine barcode all lined up according to the OSRAM website.

£160ish. Although given I've replaced the other car's halogens twice (£70 for two pairs) in half the milage it works out about the same per mile...

Do they deteriorate as a function of time, or how long they have been on when the car is being used ?

I wasn't aware of the performance of the Xenons on my wife's 2012 Mazda 3 Sport deteriorating up to the point we sold it in early 2021.

the lifespan in my experience over many many volvos is about 7 years............. ( when being used as Day running lights too)

I would assume as a function of use.

I.e. The brightness of 10 year old bulbs that have been on for 10k miles will be a hell of a lot brighter than 10 year old bulbs that have done 222k.

I remember replacing one on a previous Lexus, instantly it became obvious they need replacing in pairs!
