Default 1990 Volvo 240 GL

Hi,

Just posting this here for a friend who isn’t on the forum.
He’s selling his 240 GL, more details here in his eBay add.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304489427...d810%7Ciid%3A4

It’s a good car and he knows his stuff so it’s been well looked after in the time he’s had it.
If anyone wants more information I can pass on his number.

Cheers

Andy

The listing shows it as a G plate, so 1990?

Perhaps the market foe 30 year old motor cars isn’t as hot as we thought. Having failed to find a buyer at £3,000 this one made only £1,147 at auction.

I'm wondering whether 30ish year old motor cars might be between a rock and a hard place in the current circumstances? They aren't modern enough to take advantage of mechanical and electronic improvements manifesting as better fuel economy, performance, safety and longevity (rust protection) - but not old enough to benefit from being exempt from tax and MoT testing. As a result they are just heavy, old motor cars that use a lot of fuel and attract a lot of tax.

This motor car didn't seem to be very bad value at £3,000, but the market has spoken and it is worth less than half that much.

I didn't want to say anyhing while the car was for sale and risk torpedoeing the sale, but...

Mines a little older but much nicer in appearance, has excellent paint so doesnt need any patching or partial respray, needed no welding (although if left another year or so it might have done) underneath, came with a full ticket, new Volvo cambelt and nearly 500 quids worth new Pirellis all round and was only £2100. In light of that I felt 3 gees was a bit ootimistic and I walked past several like that to buy mine for less cash.

But presumably the seller is happy, so fair play.

Yes, I think £3k buys better. However you could put it back on sale next week, it could make more, or even less. That’s auctions, innit!🧐

High fuel prices have an impact on the value of thirsty cars, and always have: The oil crisis of the 70's meant you couldn't give away big motors, and I recall buying a big volvo for buttons in 2008, last time fuel went crazy.

A year ago this would have gotten £3k when all anyone wanted was wheels, but nowadays.... you'll be checking how much is in the tank before bidding...

Also, the prospect of an expanded ULEZ in London has made sub-historic vehicles less attractive to about 10% of the population, so along with the glut of London 240s hitting the market there'll be all those urban drivers who will want an electric car instead of a hipster car.

So l'd predict more sub-£1000 240s (please) and good luck to the dealers still trying to get £8-10k.

I think people are after the wagons also

But that’s still damn cheap for that car
