Purchase-Avoid?
A 2014 XC70 D5 SE LUX has come onto my radar which I thinking about purchasing. Are there any known issues/horror stories I should look out for? I read the XC70 ride is a bit softer which suits me as the current ride is a bit stiff for my liking although it does steer and handle well.

I've got a 2015 version as per my signature. The bits that have failed so far are few - washer pump ( a FoMoCo component so no wonder), steering angle sensor was creaky (replaced under warranty), PCV resonator box (replaced under warranty). It's done 60k miles. Lovely ride but does understeer if driven hard. It's all relative though. Mine is pampered. Is the one your looking at well serviced? Cheers Dave |

Has it been used as a tow car - might want to check out the clutch release bearing IF manual. Rear suspension bush I understand can be an issue too (FORD influence if not an actual bit) More expensive to buy than std V70 but appear to hold their values better ( judging by P2 prices). Haldex system can be troublesome - but probably due to Volvo claim ( like auto boxes) its a non serviceable item, and therefore isn't serviced (oil and filter ) hahahaha Get a good one and owners seem to love them for life - my take from being a long standing member here. If your prospective XC70 has the 4c adjustable suspension, you can change the ride from soft and shock absorbent for rough roads to taut from black top and a medium ride in between. I can from a 2+2 coupe where the ride was very good and find the XC70 to be comparable, which isn't bad for a furniture van!

I'm on my second (D4 mind you) and wouldn't change it at all! Hence I am on my second as first one got rear ended and sadly written off.

Thanks for all the input. Decided not to go with it as I don't need the extra power, or running costs(albeit minor in the grand scale of things) involved. Looks good though and the digital dash was very appealing. Have been recently trying to obtain a digital dash for my own car but need the correct part number.
