Default 2011 V60 - Constant Alarm

The alarm on my 2011 V60 has just started constantly going off when the car is locked (OK, every 5 minutes, not really constantly... )

I have done the usual check to make sure no doors have anything stuck in them, the bonnet micro-switch sensor is working fine, and nothing seems to generally be amiss.

I suspect that it is a problem with the alarm/siren module (leaky battery?). Does anyone know where it is located? from the research I have done, it seems to be a samaller unit than the earlier pre-2010 modules. Is it still stuck in the same place - behind the front o/s wheel arch liner?

Is this likely to be the culpret? There seems to be a lot on internet about the earlier pre-2010 units, but not anything I could find about these newer ones.

Any assistance much appreciated!

This is from the s60 but I would think they are the same."If there is a fault in the alarm system, the information display shows a message. In which case, contact a workshop - an authorised Volvo workshop is recommended." It seems a bit early for the battery to be at fault.

I think mine is a later version. The manual for the car doesn't have that info about faults in the alarm system. The display is the LCD Multi Media Screen.

The screen and additional info display in the rev couter doesn't mention any faults. The alarm just goes off soon after it arms itself.

For now, I have disconnected the bonnet micro switch so that the alarm can't arm itself - otherwise the neighbours would have lynched me by now...

Ah yes. Found it in there. I think that must be the same as my manual, but hadn't noticed it.

No fault is being flagged on the display on the dash though, but there is clearly something wrong.

I was thinking that others may have had similar problems and maybe there was a "it's usually this" fix. I thought it might be a NiMH battery type issue, but see from searching on-line that the alarm in this version is different from the earlier type, and there is nothing I could find flagging any problems with this version.

2 weeks until I can get an appontment to get the system read by my local Volvo dealer or indepndant specialist.

My car did this a couple of weeks ago. Pop the bonnet and you will see a couple, one on each side, switches which are open to all the road grime of the day.
These cars are really poorly designed at the front, compared to the previous P2 S60, allowing all sorts of crud in. I sold my 2005 MY S60 with hardly any dirt under the bonnet, my current car looks like I drive it through ditches.

I sprayed some WD40 into the switches and "exercised" them before putting some machine oil in. The alarm triggered once or twice while the oil got to work before going silent again.

I thought it was just the off-side bonnet lock that had a micro switch on it. Is there one on both sides? I'd best have a look later...
