Default XC60 5th gear vibration

Hi, I have an 2012 (90k mi) XC60 D3 DRIVe with a manual gear box. Bought it in January 2018 and it runs wonderfully. Apart from one niggle. 5th gear. Every other gear runs well apart from 5th. When selected, it gives a little vibration through the gear stick when foot is pressing the accelerator.. Performance doesn’t seem to be impacted but it’s just annoying. Sometimes it doesn’t do it, but 75% of the time it does. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? Is it a common fault? Many thanks. John

Interesting. Maybe a common fault then. Any idea of the cause and how much it might cost?

it depends what the cause is , can be just the cables or also the selector mechanism which come out the top of the gearbox all in one piece.

Looking at mechanical diagrams that seems logical. Cheers.

Hi guys there's is a cure for this and it's nothing to with cables there's is a tj for rattling vibration noise and you need to change parts inside gear box sounds dramatic but it's straight forward
Remove air filter box disconnect cables remove pin for lever undo 4 bolts and lift plate out then refit new parts and reassemble

It can indeed be the cables if the vibration is in 3rd 4th and 5th !

If the noise is only in 5th and the new modified gear selector mechanism does not work there is a modified bush on the cables .
