Interesting thread

I upgraded my explod to the hu-803 with amp and centre speaker

I don`t get back lighting because the car never had a stereo fitted from the factory and i had to have a small software download from a non-volvo source to enable the hu to switch on

However having said that i`ve just upgraded the hu in my S80 from the boggo standard tape/single cd unit to the hu-803 with amp and speaker and all works perfectly without the need for any software downloads and yes i have back lighting

Cheers

Yep still baffles me mate

Car in question is on an X plate but is MY2001 according to it`s configuration printout

The stereo retrofitted was from a MY2004 S80 just before the facelift changes as the stereo facia is still rounded

So kinda blows the can`t be done myth out of the water

I will also add that it`s also fully functional using the steering wheel controls

So again another raspberry to the myth

Although it does seem that some cars will not except a newer / retrofitted stereo without software this seems to apply mainly to explod cars as they were not configured with a stereo fitted at the factory so the software to drive certain components was not installed (retrofitted front fog lights also fall under software control) i know as have been there and done that

Cheers

Before I seek my center speaker does anyone know the general cost of the hu803 software 'reload' at the main dealer to enable the back lighting and steering controls?
carl4u44 did you ever get this resolved?
I have installed the same hu803 model stereo to replace hu613 and have no steering controls or backlight working. Trying to figure out if my cloned vida dice will be able to fix it.

Another vote for interested in this - my S60 seems to have had a replacement 803 installed, has a center speaker and amp, so suspect it had one from new. No lights on the buttons, steering wheel controls do nothing (although light up) and ASC doesn't work.

There is a little alarm bell ringing here. Afaik if the car is connected to the Volvo server for a download for example and it sees a foreign module it can sit the car down entirely and be quite costly to put right.
