Default Towing advice for a v40

Hi i have a volvo v40 which i use to tow a small rally car with. It tows fine but sits low at the rear. Even if i put more weight on the rear of the trailer its still low.

In the manual it says that you can get towing struts.
I was wondering if springs need changing or struts and would spring assistors work too?

Thanks Paul

Afriend of mine towed a 'van with his and it sat low. He bought the rubber doodahs that fit between the coils and it improved his problem quite a bit.

hi mate i would check to make sure the weight of the trailer and car is not over the weight the car is towing as its not a big car the v40 and i cant believe that it can legally tow a trailer with a car on i might be wrong but i have just checked all the towing rules as i have just bought a caravan and had to go for an 850 for its weight and towing capasity for the legal side of things

just about do-able, the 2l T V40 has a max tow weight of 1400kg, stripped race car about 1000kg, on a small trailer will just about be under the limit (though not ideal, should be nearer 80% max tow weight). Looking to do the same thing myself and have found i'll be quite limited to which trailer i can use to get under the weight limit and this in turn limits how you can distribute the load on the trailer.

Red face Towing with a V40

I towed a caravan with a V40 to France last year the caravan was a Bailey Imperial at 1120Ks and 1320ks loaded when I arrived after doing 750 miles I had tram lines in my hands with trying to keep it in line I had one of the new Alko stabilizers on
When I tried to get off the ferry half way up the ramp it started to slip bad with my heart in my mouth I only just got out due to the front wheel drive.
My car is one of the first 1999 V40D models with a 95BHP diesel engines so if you are thinking of towing with one of these it is a struggle but it can be done with care, every body that I talked to said O you can not go wrong with a Volvo for towing how wrong they can be.
