Default New volvo 460 owner needs help

Just bought a 1995 volvo 460 glt with 85k miles and hardly a mark on the body

I have an issue with the abs light and srs light on the dash,

I have tryed to use the obd-1 port however this only gives a code 1-1-1 on socket 2 and will not give any codes on Socket 1,3 or 7

In addition to the abs light and airbag light i also have no dip/main beam lights and heater motor seems is not working and rear electric windows are non functional.

My thoughts are a wiring short or poor earth connection. Am curoius as to wether any one knows if these items have a common ground along the line somwhere. Or any ideas beyond my own would be appreciated

Regards

Edward

Check the relay box. Its located just in that triangular pod Infront of the drivers window under tye bonnet and scuttle panel. Sounds like something there miggt be amiss. Another spot to check is the fuse box. Something may have been removed or damaged by previous owners.

1, 7 and 10 would only be there depending on the requested options for the car.

1 = lights on buzzer, so if you leave the car with the lights on it will buzz at you to remind you to turn the lights off - probably revised to a hard state rather than relay dependant.

7 = ABS test point, its a socket for volvo engineers as far as my minds eye is concerned.

10 = headight washers, so if your car has the wipers for the headlights there would be a connection here.

dosent explain why connections 11 and 9 are there but empty, which are for air con and a timed delay on the interior lights.

i would have a look at testing the relay in position 5, clean the sensors for the ABS unit on all four corners and lastly the SRS light i have no clue about. there is a big earth strap going from the negative terminal of the battery to the body panel, try cleaning up this contact.

Just an update, been working night shift so not had a chance to look at her for the last week

I now have main beam, dip beam, heaters and rear electric windows working

These started working after i removed an after market alarm/remote central locking kit and then swapped relays 5&6 around im not sure what difference swapping the relays should have made as there the same part number but after swapping the relays everything started to work again

Just abs light, air bag light and have also noticed engine warning light is not coming on when ignition switched on.

Will update as i make more progress

Well was off work yesterday striped the front brakes to do a rebuild and it appears the o/s/f abs sensor is busted so need to try and source another on seems to be easier said than done.

I have considered removing abs system for the mot (have never actually owned a car with abs) but am unsure of how to really go about that.

There's a 480 Celebration breaking at the moment, post up in the thread and I'm sure Jim will be able to help you out.

If your SRS light comes on, chances are that the contact squib has gone. This is the bit that keeps the contact as you turn the wheel.
Again, Jim should be able to help.

Cheers steve i'll give jim a shout,

Just gonna throw this one out there, i used to have a 95 civic to reset the fault codes on that i just had to diconnect the battery for half an hour.

Do volvo modules hold there fault codes in a similar fashion as the diagnostic port does not function correcly
