Default Minor hesitation at 1800rpm. Thoughts ?

OK, so been reading some of the issues and stickies but not sure if this falls into the catagories.

A couple of times today about 1800rpm i had a VERY minor hesitation, we're talking a fraction of a second. Almost feel like what may be turbo lag. Power was all fine through the range and pulled as usual. Didn't notice any drop in RPM at all. Just a fractional lag/miss.
My idle is sitting at about 725rpm with a solid needle and no movement at all.

Now this could all be in my head... but i don't think so LOL.

The car is a 2003 (52plate) S60 D5 with 120k on it. I don't know what model of MAF sensor i have to be honest.

Cheers in advance.

Hi Weeksy, these are REALLY susceptible to problems caused by a neglected Fuel Filter.
As a matter of course, for the cost involved, i would change it and start from there.
It is situated immediately forward of the rear offside wheel on the floorpan.
2 types are fitted ( yours will probably be a metal screw off canister type). The other is a black plastic housing that screws off to reveal a paper cartridge filter. These can feel incredibly tight when trying to undo but it will go.

Once changed, crank the engine over and it will self bleed ( easier though if you fill the new filter with diesel before refitting.

Good Luck Darryl

I appear to have a metal cannister that looks like a normal oil filter type.

Thats the one!

Change this first before anything else.

Mine is a 2006 with FVSH and had 55k on it when i bought it. I changed the filter ( black plastic on later cars ) and it was obvious that it had never ever been changed.
How would you ever know? Best bet , DIY and then you KNOW it is right.

Good luck and let us know if any difference. Even if not, it is not time and money wasted so win win.

Not sure re price as mine is the paper filter but they are not horrendous for either type. I got mine from Eurocarparts. Seem to remember about £12 for the metal one.

Dont worry about a little diesel being present when you remove the filter, it will not drain the tank.

We have a Euro car parts not far away too.

Just checked history and had a full service at 104,000 and a cambelt service at 110,000 along with full service.

£25 on Euro car parts

Or £20 on Ebay

Mine has a FULLY stamped book from main dealers BUT my filter had never been changed. It was FILTHY. FSH does not actually mean all it should unfortunately.

I know you are keen so stick with DIY

Only bought mine at the weekend and it's a 2003, 142k on the clock with what I think is the same problem. Seems to drive fine but has a very, very slight dip in power as the rev's rise.

When my wife's 2001 Passat TDi 130bhp had the same problem but with a much more noticeable dip it needed a new MAF.

The S60 is due a service so I'll be fitting a new fuel filter for starters.
