Roundy, Troll back up to post #16.
That's one way, the other way is to powerflush it, basically you drop the autobox cooling hose that goes into the radiator, extend it into a bucket and fire up the engine, the gearbox then pumps all its oil out into the bucket and you top up as you go. This way you get to change it all in one go.
Can be very messy.
There is a good post here somewhere on "How-To" with the Vadis sheet.
Jim314 may be able to point you, if not if I come across it again I'll re-post.

The ATF spec must be JWS 3309. It is cheaper to buy this from a Vauxhall dealer than a Volvo one. Toyota also use this brand of G/box in some of their models and can be another source for the fluid. It is Mobil 3309.

Vauxhall part no 93160393. Comes in 1L bottles.
Have been quoted £6.21/L + VAT if buying 10+ litres

I used this method when doing my old fella's '07 S60 D5 G/Tronic.
Worked a charm.

Hi Nick, Thanks for the reply. Good idea to drop Simon a line as he's always been good when I've bought parts from him in the past. Same as you, there doesn't seem to be any problems with the box, I just want the software updated to hopefully avoid any future problems.

To RoundyUk, I flushed my box last week, wasn't too hard, I used this as a guide,

Nice one, thanks for all the advice guys...

My brother works for a Saab dealership so I can get the GM ATF fluid on the cheap - have done before with my auto 9-5....

Have seen the process for the Saab's with disconnecting the cooler pipes - think I might give it a go soon... Defo worth doing as my fluid is brown...

If you decide to change the fluid, here is a little tip I worked out for myself if you don't want to use the powerflush method to change the oil.
When you drain the gearbox from the sump plug, you only get 2.5 to 3 litres out. Get your 5ltr can of JW spec oil, a thin tube that fits down the dipstick hole, and a syringe.
Put the can of oil of top of the engine, stick the tube in the can, and start a syphon at the other end using the syringe. Stick the tube in the dipstick hole and it then fills itself! No Mees!
Repeat after a run, and again, enough times until you have clean fliud.
Carefull, it gets very hot after the gearbox had been used.
You will use a little more fluid, but it's dead easy.
Also, if you change the fluid, while having the TCM upgrade and the first/neutral patch done, get the dealer to do a "fluid counter reset" as well.
I am all for doing things an easy way so I want to fully understand this procedure. You have drained whatever will come out when you remove the sump plug (~2.5 to 3 L). Then you reinsert the sump plug? Then you start a siphon from a 5 L can of ATF JWS 3309 into the transmission dipsitck tube. Do you stop the siphon when you have delivered an amount equal to what you have drained? How do you know how much you have delivered via the siphon? Is this 5 L bottle the kind that is translucent and so you can see how much remains?

Hi Jim,
Basically, yes.
Drain what you can from the sump plug, and replace.
I used a plastic 5ltr can of fluid, which had a clear strip down the side.
I graduated this strip, and then monitored the amount of fluid going into the gearbox. When I had replaced the amount drained, stop the syphon (clamp the plastic syphon hose), run the engine for a bit, and then repeat as required.
Not required to be too precise on the intermediate fills, only the last one.

Ordered my ATF fluid from my brother, worked out at £5ish plus the VAT...

May have a go at this Wednesday...just got to source some tube.

Am I right in thinking this can all be done with the vehicle on the deck apart from removing the sump plug?

mine is in the main dealers today and i've asked that they quote first, and then change this setting to prevent it going to neutral. i found if i came off the brake onto the accelerator quick, i also had the bump, but when i used the handbrake, it did not happen.

i'll report back costings when they call me......might have to get that remortgage application in...

15.31 - just taken a call from the main dealer, and they cannot find anything listed for changing this setting on a 2001 automatic box does anyone have an update code or part number?
