just wanted to let everyone know i have fixed it!!!!!!! after replacing pretty much everything:

intercooler
tcg
fuel pump
checking boost hoses
inlet hose
egr valve
turbo
etc etc

only code was p0244 (boost code)

I have ordered a map sensor, got impatient and took the fitted out out and cleaned it with carb cleaner. took it for a drive and got the usual, no power past 3k lots and lots of smoke. after having a meal at the pub on the drive home something felt different. put my foot down and it took off! i never knew the d5 was so quick! no limp home mode and absolutely files

im still going to fit the other map sensor as i think the clean is only a temp fix!

thanks so much to banksy for getting involved helping me figure it out! you are genuinely a great guy!

moral of the story dont always believe your (my) cheap code reader. I imagine if i took it to volvo they could of read the map sensor readings and sorted it for much less time/money and hassle than replacing everything

thanks all and goodnight

.........bet it will be broke in the morning

lets hope that its a result.
the problem with generic code readers it gives you limited information and also can give wrong codes, this is not a knock at them but in certain circumstances it may be cost effective to to go to a dealers or a good independant that can read live data.the live data can and will point you in the right direction and also pinpoint the defective part.
after all your frustration and part swapping lets hope that this is the fix.

Hopefully its still going well this morning , this does highlight the value of being able to interpret fault codes correctly . Have you tested the fuel pump you removed , I took it from your comment in an earlier post that you found it to be faulty but not 100% certain .

Had exactly the same problem on mine, but without the Eror code.

My car would surge when accelerating hard on and off. Got some proper MAF cleaner off ebay (it is different stuff) cleaned it up and got at least 100bhp back lol!

Anyone with boost related problems, may be worth cleaning the MAF properly before spending out as its a real easy job!

Take it the OP is talking about the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor, as opposed to the air-flow MAF sensor?

Agreed on the live data comments, although in fairness you may still have had to do some part swapping for elimination.

to be honest it was a joint effort on the MAP if this being the culprit. i believe its the one that is bolted to the intercooler. on that note live data would have picked it up hopefully .

hi all! well it wasn't all alright in the morning. it was massively better as in no smoke but still didn't fix my limp home. after speaking to Mike i was going to give in and take it to volvo. i had it booked in for this coming tuesday, but i had to fit my downpipe today as it was leaking. This completed transformed the car, the leak wasnt massive but the cat had collapsed causing a massive restriction hence all my problems and no real fault code! I thought the car was fast before but its unreal now, feels as quick as my old s60 t5 and pulls right through the rev range. So hopefully my experiences might help others but I cant see how you would test it to be honest, I guess i was lucky to have a leak.

Anyway the car is sweet now, i have taken it for a nice drive and alls good!!

thanks all for the help and hopefully i wont need anymore...........
