my humble 1978 drive, here portrayed in rome circa 2 summers ago in our twice a year average pilgrimage to the fatherland. she now benefits from the ultimate upgrade for a motorway cruiser, a much coveted M46 + overdrive gearbox. I'm close to reaching my personal 244 nirvana

Thanks Lucien, for the much appreciated feedback. I know purists will question the freedoms that I took: the wheels are not right (but I like the coronas); the rear mirrors are not right either (it should be matte black aluminium instead of steel chrome) and the interior is also not right (it's now full black leather from a GLT) the red+black makes the car now look like an Amsterdam bar: not extremely sophisticated, I know, but impossibly cool in my opinion. plus I had to get rid of the interior red cloth as badly discoloured

Itd your car, do as you like. It could all be put back to standard one day if someone wanted to.

What Date where the 240s first registered in the UK? I am currently trying to sell a 245 that was delivered on the 2/5/1975 to the uk from the tourist and diplomat sales department. Its Left hand drive just wondering why someone in the UK ordered a left hand drive car? Thought maybe they where available to the left hand drive european market before they became available in the uk?
Anyone got any idea? Cheers |

Earliest one we've found so far is GEH967N first reg 15 January 1975. I think N-reg was the earliest of the 200 series cars - August 1974 onwards for the 1975 model year?
Diplomatic Sales (in Mayfair?) used to sell cars for export (purchaser got the VAT back, or no car tax payable or something like that?). They sold cars to diplomats and military personnel etc who ordered the cars for export to the location of their overseas posting, and sometimes brought them back home when they returned. Regards Lucien |
