Just bought a Volvo V70! (advice wanted)
Hi all,
I've just bought my first car (!!). It's a 2000 Volvo V70 (Classic) 140bhp Petrol Manual. It's had a full service history from the main dealership. Really loving with the car--such a pleasure to be in! It will mainly be used for doing holidays in (camping/touring/road trips). Everything works as it should other than that there are a couple of issues with the electric windows. Driver seat can operate all windows correctly, apart from passenger window (which it can bring down but not back up). Passenger seat can operate its window fine. Rear window child lock is on, and jammed in place. I've tried spaying wd-40 silicone on the buttons, but it still seems jammed and i don't want want to force it. So this means that the window buttons in the rear seats aren't working. Does anyone know any potential solutions to the above? Preferably ones which don't involve taking the whole door off! I live in London at the moment and it's not ULEZ, so might end up selling within a couple of years As I mentioned above, the car's had an annual service with the main dealer, and I'm wondering about whether it makes sense to continue that, or to go for a service this year with an independent Volvo garage? Does anyone have any recommendations? I often take trips to the West Country and I'd had a recommendation for Kings Motors out that way. Thanks for any help! |

hi mg123
If the passenger window will go down but not up from the drivers switch pack, will it go up and down from the passenger switch pack? If yes, then the most likely problem is the reed switch contacts inside the drivers door switch pack. You can take the unit apart, remove the fluff, clean things up and put it back together and that might fix it. Google or search on this forum. You will probably need to take the drivers door panel off and then you can push the switch pack up from below. If your door panel is good, then be careful with it, because a good panel is worth looking after. Once you know how to remove door panels, then you can investigate the child lock on the rear door. HTH Steve

Hi Steve,
Yep, it goes down and up from the passenger side. I'll try removing the driver door panel and clean out the switches/investigate! Thanks |

Just seen this:
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=306941 There's a couple videos in there of people doing this without taking off the panel, will do that. |
