Default V50 windscreen leak

So I have the well known windscreen leak.. Does anyone know a quick fix for this? at the present time I don't have the money to renew the seal been quoted £150 to remove and refit but 80% chance the windscreen will break then I'm looking at £300 ish my insurance won't touch it either...

There is no quick fix. I had mine replaced for 125 GBP (in Hungary), so I am sure you can get cheaper offers.

You might be able to bodge it by pulling the headliner down a bit and putting some form of sealent along the edge where its failed.

There are 2 other options though;

1. See if a dealership will fix it for you. They will do it for free, but if it breaks on the way out, they won't pay to replace it with a new one.

2. Smash your windscreen and claim for a new one on your insurance.

Have a ring round the local independent windscreen companies. I got mine done a couple of years ago for £75. He said he'd done loads of them on Volvo's and had never had one break on him. It's not leaked at all since it was done.

Good idea that.

I just called a local place and they said it would be £60 +VAT to rebond the windscreen. 99% success rate with them not breaking during removal.

Mmm, I've not had any leaks but I did have a new screen fitted about 5 years ago under the insurance (stone chip....crack..etc).

Trouble with new screens is that they seem to chip easily, mine's done about 30K miles and is peppered with small chips.

I guess if the screen is a good one then get an independent to remove/reseal.

Why do the Volvo seals fail anyway?

Something to do with the rubbish bonding agent/sealent that they used during our era of cars.

Although, I have heard some reports of it happening on newer cars as well.

Hello Baker,
Leak.

‘......my insurance won’t touch it either’.

Now thinking about breaking it, and claiming on your insurance.

Really!??

And your point is?

It's not like no one has ever done that before to get a new windscreen.
