Exhaust manifold stud size?
Got to do this job soon and just trying to get the bits together, so I need to replace the broken stud so can you tell what size I need? Thread size and length.
Then there’s the manifold gasket? Best price I’ve found is £9 for one port! Seems a bit steep?

I'd get the stud from volvo (they are pricey but you know it will be correct).
For the exhaust manifold to cylinder head gasket (I'm assuming it is a 2.3 T5/R engine) you can order a V50 T5 one which is one piece (much easier to fit) and about £7 when I bought one a few years ago.

At a guess I would say M8 x? – it is only that but once you have one off the car you can confirm the size (Volvo may confirm on enquiring) The main reason to reply is to say that I wouldn’t buy fasteners from Volvo because of the total lack of value for money factor- studs aren’t anything special so you are free to go for quality H.T. fasteners from others.
I run two Volvos & a 63 year old Riley and purchase these items through various classic car fastener suppliers- many are upgraded to stainless steel – particularly manifold & water studs. If you have a decent engineering store then the same will be available from them at a fraction of the Volvo price and a higher specification once you know what you want. Being a tight Lancashire lad I hope it helps! Bob |

1998 V70R AWD, B5234T4 engine, top end rebuild
Thank you DunkinBiskits, for manifold stud thread size/pitch. Any idea on O/A length, pls?
I have rebuilt a replacement head but it came without any of the 23 studs...! Look forward to hearing, thank you. Last edited by Cyltapen; Jul 5th, 2020 at 16:10. |

Thank you again, 4x4. All sorted )
FYI, exhaust stud #982667, is an M8 x1.25, 50mm. It takes an M8 x 9.4, flange nut #985868, plus a suitable washer. There are 10x each, not the 23 as typo, yesterday... Last edited by Cyltapen; Jul 6th, 2020 at 15:56. |
