I think that cars newer than 2000 have to have a type approved towing hitch, so you cannot modify them, apart from bolting on a flange mounted rack.

This may not stop you making your own flange mounted carrier however. :-)

30Kg kept tight to the fulcrum works by my numbers with fair margin for safety. Why feck? Just do it. With the numbers revealed I start to wonder why you ask?
BTW: My Duuo gets nailed to my hitch when in use. I'd have to suffer from major conceits to think they'd be that keen, they'd have to really want it, or take the car too.

My lad has the same system on his V50. Ace bit of kit and so much better than having things hanging off the back of the car.

Incidentally, I was on the M69 near Leicester on a Sunday morning recently. Thankfully the motorway was quiet as a car with one of those strap on bike carriers, that hangs off the back of the car, had shed its load of three bikes all across the motorway. Luckily no one was injured and no other cars were involved, due to it being quiet, but all three bikes were just a heap of twisted metal. Could have been a lot worse.

Thank you for asking.
I have prostate cancer, had prostate taken out on 18th May and I still want to be able to cycle.
I already have 3 normal bikes and the weight is not an issue on normal bike racks.
