Volvo on Call
Is this service worth subscribing to on an old car?
I like BMW's connected drive which has all sorts of features usable via an app and usually renew my subscription for that, but am guessing that Volvo On Call must be very basic indeed for the older models - mine is a 2008 MY. Being very new to Volvo, I have a number of questions which likely sound stupid to long-time Volvo owners.......... |

That’s up to you. How much do you value safety?

A bit more info and possibly less scary
On Call in theory, will let Volvo know if you are involved in an accident. They will then send out support services to "rescue" you (at your cost - their choice of who attends) 2 points 1 - If you are dead - you don't care (harsh but true) 2 - If you are not dead (and nobody has died (in UK) in an XC90 as a result of an RTA - ever...) - you can probably call your own rescue service. So - when I bought my 2011 car in 2016 - I had the option to renew - and didn't... Ultimately - It's your choice. You will find plenty of people on here who are very savvy on all matters Volvo but tend to err on the side of "safety" and "do the Volvo thing" That's fine of course but I believe "real world people" need to take a broader view. How do I drive, what risks do I take - how likely am I to be involved in a RTA? If you are an older/safer driver (not always concomitant...) then you can probably "get away with" not subscribing. If not - begs the question - "why are you driving an XC90"?? Cheers Dave |

Have you ever had airbags go off in a crash?
Most people haven’t Statistics say that most people will never need airbags. So why bother with them? Safety systems are not needed until you need them Yesterday for the 2nd time in 4 years my EBA Emergency Brake Assist was triggered in my car. Another system that t is rarely needed but when it is used, it is fantastic. A crash may not kill you in an XC90. But it may render you unconscious. May. Maybe. Maybe not. If. Possibly. Who knows? Your choice.

And for the same reasons, why bother with house insurance? Most people never need it....

Quote:
The safety part which needs no subscription, The security part which enables the car to be tracked by the call centre if stolen . . Only the security part needs a paid subscription , however the safety part does need registration so they know who you are . Your dealer can deal with erasing the previous owners data and entering your own . It is well worth reading up exactly what the system can do ! For interest this is yet another 20 year old volvo innovation which is about to be law on all new cars ...
