Default V50 Fuel Tank

Hi everyone, I am experiencing a familiar fault i believe with my V50 in that the fuel gauge is not showing the correct amount of fuel in the tank. I am currently using the trip counter to give a rough gauge on when to fill up.

I would like to ask if anyone has had their fuel level float and sender replaced and if so approx. how much did it cost from A) a volvo dealer and B) a general garage. Any help would be most welcome thank you.

Hi, you got any further in this? More info about your car plz? My V50 doesnt have "sender" or floater per se - amount of fuel is calculated by algorithm and is kinda "estimated" based on some factors and sensors, sometimes leading to bogus readouts. Also in my case this unit is integral part of fuel pump, may be similar in your case (= not possible to replace on its own). How exactly is it behaving?

Hi sorry haven't been very descriptive. I have a 2010 V50 1.6 Drive SE Lux and when i fill up my fuel gauge can range between half to 3/4 full. I have to go by the trip mileage, once it gets to 400-450 or so miles i then fill up again.
I am sure i have read that this is a problem with unit mounted inside the fuel tank and was hoping that someone had maybe had this repaired and if so approx. how much this was to repair.

I know this is an old thread but better add to this than start a new one.

Noticed fuel gauge in my 2.4i V50 was almost in the red yesterday evening so filled it up with £65 worth, got in car fuel gauge showing full and drove 3-4 miles home. This morning I get in the car and it is showing 3/4 full, drive about a mile and it is showing 2/3 full. I get worried, get out, check under car for leak, nothing. Drive 5 miles to park my car ready to being commute to work, fuel gauge has not moved and is still on 2/3 full, check under car again, fuel tank looks dry and no drips from anywhere underneath that I can see.

I am guessing a fault with the fuel level sender. I have never filled up my car so much as long as I can remember, always trying to refill it around the 1/4 to 1/3 level.
