S60 2015 R-DESIGN owner
Hi All, wonder if anyone can answer me a question, I've just brought myself another Volvo, S60 2015 R-desgin with 24500 miles, and part exchange my S80 2009 over the weekend from Volvo Selekt, its a nice car, i notice how going over even small potholes or speed humps at low speed, it's so not comfortable, it goes through the car, the S80 was much better. the standard tires are 235/40/R18, i know there low profile. I've never had a low profile tires so not sure if its normal, the 4 tires are new.
Wondering at some point i was thinking to change them to 235/50, see if it makes it better or help or would that be pointless. I have 30 days to return the car. Thank you. |

To keep the same rolling radius they would have to be 225/50 and yes, 40 profile tyres will give a harsh ride.

The problem may be the R-design suspension which is 15 or 20% stiffer than other S60s.
Only option for you is to switch to 16" wheels and put some 215/60 tyres on it or, as it is a Selekt car, you have I think 14 days to swap it. See if the dealer has something other than an R-design car to test.

I find mine (with the same size tyres) is a harsh ride and can transmit a lot of road noise on certain surfaces. It's slightly better with the tyre pressures at 35psi.

Today the winter tires got placed. 215/50/17 Continental TS850P. brand new ones and I have to say it really doesn't make any difference at all. And you have to know that as far as I know winter tyres are much softer. So go figure. I think it's just the suspension and nothing you can really do about it. |

on the motorway yesterday, had a warning low tire pressure. I went to check the tire pressure and the rear were set to 36psi and 33psi. The front were set to 48psi and 49psi. now i know why the car was bouncing like a pimps car. it drives much better then before. am shocked that Volvo selekt didn't check that, as part of there 100-point check, should be 101.
should there be 33 all around. i know the cars on the door says 33psi ? |

It is advisable to set tyre pressures to ECO which is good in all ways as long as you are happy with the ride . In any case do not let any pressures go below 35 psi otherwise the edges of the front tyres wear prematurely and fuel consumption will suffer .
