so it was tested at the front with the multimeter on AC voltage and the reading went up with vehicle speed ? Tested at the sensor ? i would test at the sensor with the multimeter see if there is a signal , then the terminal on the speedo see if it is still there , if not renew the wiring between sensor and speedo .. it still may not work if the speedo is faulty . But you Have to have that signal on the speedo itself it's vital to know ..

yeah was tested at the front and the reading went up, should i retest the front speedo plug and then unplug and test the sensor and then rewire?
sorry im a bit slow!! when you say terminal do you mean the plug with the three wires in?

Yes the 3 wire terminal block which plugs on the speedo .
Have the live feed and earth been checked out ok? Make sure the speed signal is still there with the plug plugged into the speedo too . But better to look at the signal with an oscilloscope . When you can see it in black and white you are happy its actualy there ...

well ive tried the earth and also renewed the wiring but still nothing!!! so it looks like it may be the drum in the diff? its going to have to go to the indie on tuesday but i begrudge paying an hourly rate only to find he cant fix it!!

But how can it be the drum if the signal is ok at the front at the speedo ???

got some progress today, took the car for a run and put some petrol in and the speedo moved to 15mph at speeds below 30mph and then to 20 over 30mph, so i decided to take it up the dual carriage way and couldnt get the needle over 20mph, the whole trip was around 3 miles however the odometer only registered 0.5 of a mile!!
