Default S40 (2008) Front Seat Noise

Hi all,

I recently picked up a 2008 S40 (right hand drive). I've noticed that the drivers seat makes a creaking noise which seems to come from the rear, lower, left hand side of the seat. The creaking noise seems to be slightly reduced when the height of the seat is adjusted to its lowest position, but can't be eliminated completely no matter the position of the seat.

Having read a few posts here and elsewhere about seat squeaks and creaks, I've tried spraying WD40 everywhere I can see something that *may* move but it doesn't seem to have stopped or reduced the noise.

Has anybody come across this particular problem, and do you have any advice for me please?

Thank you,

Chris

It's the big tube across the back of the seat at the rear , the crimped joints at the ends , Volvo were aware of this 13 years ago and have a special grease for it .

Wow, thanks for the speedy reply! Is there anything I'd be able to do myself without taking it to Volvo? As it's rather an old car now I imagine if I took it in they'd laugh at me and then try to fleece me.

well you could try a runny grease and run it all the way around the inner and outer joints where the tube is crimped to the two end plates . That is 4 circular crimp joints all the way around ...

I am also having some creaking noise of the driver seat, mostly when turning left/right, I just ignored it, but I might have look into it soon.

All of you experiencing this - google for "volvo WHIPS seat noise fix", thats exacltly pinpointing whats causing it.
I didnt bother with official volvo "remedy" (pieces of felt), just greasing it ever so often like every 6months and works like a charm :}

Thanks for the advice. Sorry for being a bit thick, but I've uploaded pictures of each side of the 'bar'. Would anyone mind telling me where to squirt the grease please? One side seems to be wound in a fabric thread.

well it is in full view there , where the tube going across the back of the seat is bent and squashed to make it grip the plate which forms the side of the seat , some kind of runny grease needs to get into that joint each side of the plate on both sides of the seat ...

Thank you. I've squirted white lithium grease in and around both sides of the bar and (for now) it seems to have stopped the squeaking noise!
