Worth noting that the (Volvo designed) 2.5T 5 cylinder was offered with 197bhp and later 231bhp so it will be worth checking what version you are looking at.
The 2.0 T5 4 cylinder engine of that year is a Ford Ecoboost engine design that was lightly modified by Volvo. It outputs 237bhp. The 2.5T is a well tested and proven reliable engine. It will be heavier on fuel than the 2.0 4 cylinder but its better suited at shifting the bulk of a V70 due to having more cylinders and more of the torque being available sooner. Also, the geartronic autobox mated to the 2.5T is more reliable than the powershift "DSG" style unit than the 2.0 T5 comes with. |

T5R92011: Thanks for the tech info.
The 2015 XC70, 2.0, 8 speed FWD I drove Friday felt great. Volvo put a great looking two-tone brown interior in it. Gotta say it felt familiar as I've been driving FWD V70 (3 of them) for >20 years. Tomorrow I drive a 2016 XC70, 2.5, 6 speed AWD for comparison. This one is rated at 230 hp. Ha-ha, there's always a single hp or two difference between European hp ratings and ours. I'm glad to drive 2 true 'sister cars'. This one has nav and a backup camera to offset its gloomy black interior. It's one model year younger with ~9,000 fewer miles for $3,000 more. It's been hard to locate candidates to replace my 2007. I just wish FWD wasn't dropped in the 70 series as it's all I need. By the way, how frequently is the "transfer case" or bevel gear in the P3 vehicles serviced? I know there's a filter and special juice in there.
