Aluminium roof rails

Greetings,

Did a search and can't find an answer.

I have a new to me MY09 XC90 with brushed aluminium roof rails. They're a bit discoloured. What's the best way to polish the roof rails to brighten it up?

I've been cleaning up the car's paint and the spotty and stained rails is an eyesore.

I believe the roof rails, like the chrome window trim, is anodised aluminium. The spotted finish is damage to the surface and cannot be "buffed out".

Either needs re-anodising (?), replacing or maybe coating with plasti-dip??

I think its a trip to the body-shop

I have the ordinary grey finish on mine and often wondered if it'd be possible to vinyl wrap them with the same Oracle chrome wrap I have on my side steps ?
Another job on the to do list :-)
