Fuel cap retaining strap
Hello
Today I discovered the strap broken. I think this is a common problem over here as my V40 and the old S80 also had a broken strap and whole lot of other volvos I see. In VIDA the strap is pictured as a separate part but there is no corresponding part no. Searching the web I've come across a few people selling the strap only. Some say it'll fit the XC90 some say it won't. But looking at mine I think it's the same size as the S80 but I can't be 100% sure. http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/...oducts_id=7666 http://tinyurl.com/nmq378h http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volv...strap-31336424 Have anyone here bothered replacing the strap only? Have any of you bought this strap from any the sellers above? There is a hook on the fuel flap for the cap but I don't find that all that great and need to do a balancing act to get the cap secured on the small notch. Thanks!

Fuel cap restraining cap
I have a 2006 xc-70. Same issue. Found a replacement strap on Amazon. No details on how to replace. Found a site where it said the new circular plastic piece snaps in place over the cap. The circular plastic ring has a bevel to it. I basically broke the old one trying to get it off - but did not matter. Old one was broke anyway. The new one snapped into place on the cap. New one works just fine. - Mike

After revisiting this thread and searching ebay again, this is what I've gathered.
The strap with circular plastic ring is not available for the XC90 (petrol, not sure diesel). The XC90 I think uses a smaller diameter ring. See description below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-940...oAAOSwXrdaEwBn There is a strap only available but maybe not for all XC90s. See below https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-850...YAAOSwlptaLpns I broke my circular ring so no options for me.

Have you tried your local Volvo dealer with Part# 31336424 ?
This appears to fit the 3.2 and 4.4 litre MY09 petrols, and is listed for the 2.5T up until MY2007 (but model availability / timescale varied a bit between different markets, so it is possible that this is still the part you are looking for). Should be around 5 GBP from Volvo. |

I will bring the cap over to my dealer and see what he says, and will ask about that part number you gave.
Thanks!

strap under £5 delivered and works great.
hi,
Thanks for the posts I didn't know the straps were available separately. I bought one a couple of days ago, £4.95 on the bay including first class delivery. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-850...72.m2749.l2649 Looks identical to the original although felt a little harder, but perfectly good for the job. Fitting was simple, about 5 minutes in total to change. Photos below. I used a pointy thing and a little hammer to start the pegs moving then just pushed them through from the underside I intended not to take the pegs fully out but pushed a little hard, however re fitting was no problem, just gripped them in pliers and located them in the holes. Hope the photos help if you are considering doing this.

Indeed fuel tank filler pipe diameters vary from market to market - so be cautious when purchasing something on eBay that might be designed for or come from a different market to your vehicle

Fuel cap retailing strap
You also might want to look at Skandix in Germany. Using your cars VIN you can easily check if the strap fits your cars (does on most models)
