Default Aux input newer models

Hello

I gather searching the forum that the Aux input is only found in newer models. I have a MY08 and have an aux input located at the center cupholder.

Have anyone used a male to male aux (stereo) jack cable to connect an android phone to the HU using this Aux input?

I'm not well versed in audio stuff but any advice on how to use the aux input for playing from an external device much appreciated. I've come across people using the Aux input to connect to an Ipod so it sounds possible it may work with an Android phone.

I'm aware Volvo has a kit for a USB connection (expensive) and there are aftermarkets solution (also expensive for me).

Thanks!

I'm guessing it's a 3.5mm jack, just like a headphone socket?
In which case you can plug anything in there, iphone, android phone, mp3 player. It just receives the audio signal as headphones would, the format is insignificant. As long, of course, as your stereo has an aux input option listed in the menus.

Thanks everyone. Bought a cheap cable and got it working with my android lollipop. Pretty dandy as can activate the player on the phone using google now voice activation.

The steering wheel's volume button works. And surprisingly the auto volume mute / lowering works when reversing, but using the radio and CD it doesn't ...

Hi aslan
Glad you got your aux in sorted.
I think your year xc90 should have an ipod lead in and a usb lead in.
I have MY 08 SE LUX and these 2 input leads are in the glove box as well as my aux in in centre consul same as yours.
However, I have dynaudio premium sound system so may be different, just passing info on.

Hi xco,

I think you are right. I don't have the dynaudio system and I don't have the input leads in the glove box. I did looked there hoping I'm lucky but unfortunately not!

I would love the USB leads but the price to have the Volvo version installed is sooo expensive.

Just a headsup re your aux in you may already know but if not here goes.
When you use your phone or any other aux source to input they say in handbook have your volume on input device turned up full as is effectively only signal so the higher the better and also do not have plugged in charging at same time.
On a recent through the night trip to scotland I had occasion to use my mobile as source but hadn't read about not charging it at same time.
Quite honestly it sounded crap, but when I looked into why it sounded crap I found out about not charging it at same time, unplugged it from usb cigarette charger and it immediately sounded superb as it should do.
Hope this helps, please ignore if you already know.

Hi,

TBH I didn't pour over the details in the handbook.

I have done the steps as suggested and I found that having the input device volume at full is good and better clarity.

I have always used the phone while charging. I tried unplugging it today and I can't really appreciate any difference. The sound is decent on my setup at least, with or without plugged into the charger.

Thanks for the advice though!
