Default Is this the angle gear drain plug?

I intend to change all the AWD component fluids in the coming weeks. Haven't decided whether to change the AOC filter too as I read that is difficult.

First part is to change the angle gear fluid. I've been searching the web for instructions and pics. There's a bit of variation of the pics out there compared to mine but my guess is the bolt in the middle (the odd color and size from the rest) is the drain plug?

Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks!

Nope thats the filler,

They don't have a drain plug, neither do the haldex unit or the rear diff,

As stated, there is no drain, only a filler - When I replaced my angle gear, I drained and refilled with new oil, simply as I had it off the car, so could tip it out. I wouldn't be too worried about changing it though, as long as the level is correct, ie no leaks, then the original high spec synthetic it was filled with should last pretty much indefinitely. The oil isn't subject to combustion by-products such as soot and heat etc, and it's only ever under any real shear force if the AWD is actually in use, otherwise it's just sloshing around under just the load of turning the prop shaft.

Thanks Mike. Refreshing to hear a different opinion to what everyone else out there (on the net) saying it should be changed.

What about the AOC filter and fluid and the rear diff fluid? What's your opinion for these? Are the fluids there also synthetic?

Volvo have always used the very highest quality transmission oils that helps them to last as long as they do , Even old 850's ( and my old 340 ) with 250,000 + miles are still happily running around on their original oil . So as long as it is dry and topped up no need to worry
The AOC filter isnt an issue unless you have a 2010 onwards where something in the oil can cause a gel to form , you will get a fault message if this is a problem . The pump is easy to get off and unblock the strainer attached to it .
