Default Upgrading V70 Halogen to Led?

Hi everyone, new here.

I have decided not to sell my 2013 V70 but to upgrade and refresh it as much as possible. It is the facelift version with a digital dash, new bumpers, a good stereo system with an amplifier under the seat, but not many other extras.

1. I just noticed that OSRAM is offering some new technology LED lights that fit into the standard halogen socket H7. I am tired of the low visibility in the dark and am looking into this as an upgrade. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, which light version did you opt for? What has been your experience?

My car already has LED fog lights, LED mirrors, and LED DRLs as standard, so I'm looking to upgrade the car so it's all LED, interior as well.

2. My second question, if anyone happens to know - I want to upgrade the abysmal 5-inch infotainment screen to the 7-inch. I understand I won't have the same features, such as internet, etc., but just want a nicer, bigger display so the car feels more modern. Perhaps there are some features I could unlock with Carly OBD. I don't know. If anyone has any tips for these two questions, please let me know!

Hi,
please search the forums, there have been discussions about this.
To cut it short, AFAIK, that is not legal to do. Although many people do it, it's not street legal (headlights, that is. For interior it's OK of course).

As far as I know, they are legal here in my country. I figured that many would do it either way, and since this is a big forum i decided to ask here the best way to go about it.

Do you by chance know where to get interior light upgrades?

Not sure about Germany, I imagine they will be pretty strict on such things, but test centers here in Ireland require vehicles fitted with xenon/gas discharge lamps to have a headlamp cleaning device plus suspension level sensor/s. Yes, people fit the upgrade bulbs once the test certificate has been obtained but these are the folks who are blinding the rest of us.

No experience with any of the above as they currently don't ship to ROI.

The prohibition of fitting LED bulbs into halogen bulb headlight sockets was an EU wide regulation to which the UK conformed and quite rightly as the halogen lamp housings are not designed to cope with the light pattern of LED bulbs and unless Osram have developed an LED bulb which completely mimics an incandescent filament bulb they are likely to produce glare which blinds oncoming drivers. Even if the bulbs were technically acceptable, they would not be legally acceptable as the regulations do not take account of the exact bulbs fitted but just ban LED in halogen housings. Germany has far stricter modification rules that the UK and I believe that no changes to the specification of the car is permitted without TUV approval.

I did my interior lights with LEFs from www.classiccarlleds.co.uk The four in the front and two in the back were 5w wedge but needed replacement bulb holders as the original Volvo bulbs appear to be soldered into the bulb holders. The footwell, glovebox and luggage area are festoons that are simple to replace.

Osram Night Breaker LED replacement headlamp bulbs are, indeed, legal in Germany, and now in most of Europe too:

I wish they were legal here. My new (to me) 2017 V40 has the "Thors Hammer" LED lights and they are awesome. Unbelievably good (when adjusted right...)

As for interior bulbs: in the overhead light units (and a few other locations around the car) I have fitted Ring 501 LED 12V W5W 4000K bulbs. My 2011 MY car had push and turn bulb fitment in both ceiling light units, so I also bought a pack of Ford adaptors that allow use of W5W bulbs. That works perfectly. Initially I had all those bulbs glowing very faintly all the time, but, after changing one bulb, that stopped. A faulty bulb I think.

Interestingly my 2013 C30 had what appeared to be identical ceiling light units that had modern W5W push-in fittings as standard, so later cars should be easier to update.

What about the number plate bulbs? Can they be replaced with LED style bulbs without any adaptions?

I replaced mine with osram LEDs, does not throw any errors on the dash but will throw error codes on a scan.

You can buy cambus LEDs but I find them a bit of a lottery on if they throw codes or not.
