Suddenly really low xenons and car windscreen fogging up
Hi there,
Volvo s80, 2004 facelift Checked straight away with Vida and found an error - REM-8F11 Position sensor xenon lamp Signal too low And once I click on the error I got this Headlights, Headlight aim is off, DC Headlights, Does not work, EY Can't find much about this error, any ideas, broken sensor, mechanism, reset at some point? How do you deal with a windscreen that fogs up? Only when A/C is on it's okay once it's off that's it. Regards |

The position sensors are mounted against a control arm. They are vulnerable.
I wouldn't think an '04 would have sensors built into the lamp housing. The fogging windscreen sounds like a failed evaporator. A failed heater core leaves a slippery deposit (coolant). |

Worth trying the SUM calibration in VIDA to see if that helps the headlamps.

Simon Jones, can you be more specific what exactly should I find on SUM ? If I am not wrong, there was a section that calibrates f/c (suspension)only not to mention, f/c is removed away from the car (physically and on the car computer).
Is there a section specific for the lights? Georgeandkira - perhaps the fogging windscreen is related to A/C too? Once I turn off A/C the car vent becomes wet/humid. Maybe some drops of a/c stuff are on the windscreen? If the heater core would be failed, then the carpet would be wet and antifreeze would be under minimum level? What do you think? |

I don't have my copy of VIDA to hand, but I'm pretty sure you just click on the SUM icon and the calibration option is available from there. The instructions tell you that the car needs to be on level surface before you start. As I recall, the headlamps will move up and down during the process (although I may just have mis-remembered that!)
By the way, does 'f/c' refer to 4C? I don't think there is a connection between 4C and the SUM as xenon headlights were available with conventional shocks I believe. |

Is it fogging up inside or out and is the compressor cycling on/off by itself?

Below is a link to a post that I started when I had Xenon issues, Mine turned out to be a motor, but there is a lot of "technical" stuff I discovered along the way which may help you.
To calibrate a non 4C suspension is via the rear electronic module (REM) 4Csuspension is calibrated via the SUM. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...Um+calibration Good luck. Cheers Bob |

Surprisingly yesterday the light was back to normal level without doing anything (I just opened the bonnet to check if the cables are missing).
IF the problem comes back I will use your given information. For fogging it's only inside and compressor cycling is not going on/off by itself. |

If the temperature sensor on the evaporator fails the compressor will work all the time trying to cool the car. This eventually results in the evap frosting up, the pipes in the engine bay frosting up and finally the evap blocks reducing flow in the cabin to little or nothing.

AFAIK, having the air con on eliminates any condensation in the car.
This is how to replace the evaporator temp sensor.
