Default V70 detatchable tow bar use.

Just got my 'new' V70, which has had a Volvo detatchable tow bar fitted from new, by previous owner.
As its a geartronic, I was wondering how much towing the car has actually done, so had a look at the detachable section. Its totally unmarked, the black paint is pristine on the tow ball and also on the section that inserts into the under-bumper socket?
To me this suggests that its never been used in anger. Anyone else use this type of socket and can confirm that its impossible to use without marking the paint on the tow ball bit?
Why would anyone specify a Volvo fit tow bar, with the new 13 pin electrics, and the adaptor cable for 2 x 7 pins sockets, (about £450 I think on the options list) and then never ever use it?

If the towball is unmarked I would bet it never has been used for towing. I tow a caravan and with using a stabilised hitch the paint has to be removed for the hitch to work.

Hi Alec,
Bit of a long shot but has the car been an ex-demo or shoroom car?
Some dealers will put tow bars and other options on stock cars on display or in the showroom.
The detatchable bars dont mark up a great deal when being fitted & removed but might also be worth having a look at the actual tow ball itself? that should so signs of use more.
