The car also won't auto-stop if the car is in manual mode. I use this to control if I want the car to stop or not when using the auto brake.

I am aware of the "situations" that prevent the Start/Stop system operating, but until a week or so ago it worked perfectly even on my short runs.
I have, today, taken the car for a longer drive, 40+ miles, surely enough to charge the batteris but S/S is still not working.
Booked into dealers for 3rd Nov.

+1 : When the Auto Braking (A) is switched off, the auto start stop doesn't function as expected.

Mine almost never works. I am on Jersey though so do exclusively short distances. I recently travelled to the UK though and after 120 miles drive it still didn't work (headlights/wipers/heating on). I put it on an overnight charge and then it worked again. This has already been the subject of a software update but maybe needs another?

Mine works but is annoying when you are edging forward for parking etc.

The stop/start battery cant be big enough, I have the same problem, it does not hold enough charge when doing short runs, but as Neon says it is a bit of a pain when it does work when creeping close to walls etc when parking.

The battery is the one that always starts the car there is no separate battery for starting, only an additional one for running the electronics when the engine is not running. When you are doing short runs the main battery will not get charged enough to be able to utilise stop/start.

Which goes back to my earlier post that the battery is not being charged efficiently enough .

When my car was in for investigation last week I was told the DPF unit could also cause the Start/Stop system to stop operating as the filter was filling up due to short journeys.

From the dealer the S/S system did work but has now failed again despite some longer runs (in excess of the suggested DPF regeneration time given in the nanual)

It goes back in next week, possibly for a replacement of the DPF.

Its the small additional battery that is not getting enough charge so engine does not stop. At least that is what the sales man told me in my dealership.

The small battery is only for the electronics but if it isn't charged up enough the engine won't turn off even if there is enough power in the main battery otherwise you would lose all the electronic components as though the car was switched off altogether and it would not know when to turn on again. Short runs will not allow the small battery to balance charge to drain I think.
