Default Steel rims to fit V70

Hi guys,

I am looking at fitting winter tires to a set of steel rims to my 2003 V70. I've searched endlessly yet cannot find any definitive info on if rims from other cars fit. I know Ford had a tie in with Volvo at one time. Has anybody fitted steel rims to their V70? Or knows of what other cars can be used?

Many thanks, Paul

why do they have to be steels, wouldn't it be easier to just keep an eye on ebay and find a cheap battered set of rims, then give them a bit of a sand down and spray, even a halfassed job would look better than steels

for example

Thats what I did, I got mine off a member on here, a set of XC70 alloys which were cosmeticaly challenged, got a set of part worn tyre in the correct size for my car then gave them a paint job in my garage.

I guess any wheel will do, I thought of steels being cheaper than a set of old alloys but will have a rethink and look on the Bay of E.

Cheers, Paul

Default Steel Rims

I did go down the steel rims options , but I went with 16 inch rims to get a taller sidewall for use in snow. They fit a 205/55 x 16 winter tyre which is much more widely available than a 225/45 x 17.

I actually bought a set off this forum from a member who had upgraded to a P3 car. From memory I paid £220 for a 4 steels with Continental winter tyres already fitted. They also came with a set up hub caps which in my opinion make it look OK.

They have now lasted me 4 winters using them for about 3 or 4 months each time.

I did also buy a full size steel rim for a spare to replace the space saver, I think was about £35 new from a tyre supplier in Germany (but thanks to Brexit they don't ship to UK any longer!)

I went down this route a few years ago and had problems fitting 16" wheels.
Have a 2004 facelift T5 on 17" wheels, handbook said to use 16" for winter tyres so purchased some used alloy wheels and fitted new tyres. Went to fit on car but would not clear brake calipers even with a small spacer so now use them on the wifes 2004 ford mondeo where they fit and work very well.
