go for it.

Email Mcguad and ask them what drill bits they use in their removal kit, the bits I used cost £30 each.

Update. I have managed to get the offending locking nut removed
After ringing 4 main dealers, 2 Volvo indy, 6 tyre fitters and 2 breakdown recovey services I finaly got a vey friendly voice who gave me hope.
It was a small outlet of a main dealer and they were very, very helpful. They managed the job with a sledge hammer and what looked like a master key/socket which they managed to break 2 sets of them.
It took them 15 mins and didnt want a penny but I gave them both a bung They also GAVE me 4 new standard bolts to replace the 4 locking nuts.
Job done and a huge Cheshire cat smile on my face.
Thanx to the lads at Volvo

YAAY!

Them's heroes.

So I'm guessing there are two kind of lockers.
I've got the conical ones (no hex nut at the top).

And I'm guessing you've got the hex type - which they put a socket and lever onto and banged with the hammer.
Or have it got it all hopelessly wrong ?

This very same topic has been under discussion rescently on another forum that I frequent

Here is a link to it http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?t=39852 I hope it's of interest to you all

There are links to many different tools and ways of removing the dame things but the link to this company who proposes that the tool they sell can remove 100% of all locking wheel nuts every time is very interesting LINK to Dynomec ltd and here is a link to a video of the tool in use LINK to video

toolbah - could I ask you which dealership got the job done for you?

Im in the same situation and had a mcguard key snap on me, got a new one and the damn thing still wont budge! Its the locknut with a 'flowery' wavey slot...I believe hammering a larger nut on wont work as the locknut itself is round and there is no space between the wheel nut and the alloy rim

Anyway, where was this dealer? Im in Nottingham.

try and find someone who can weld bolts onto the locknuts.its not as desperate a solution as you might think and they will come off.a good welder will do the job without even marking the wheel.then replace them with standard wheel nuts.the mcgaurd type nuts are a very poor design.i,ll never fit a set of lockers again there just not worth the trouble.
